Jag heter Herman Erik Gumaelius och var på 1960-talet rektor för Polhemskolan i Lund. Jag har skämtsamt kallats "Lunds mest tjänstledige rektor" för från 1968 jobbade jag först som sakkunnig i Utbildningsdepartementet i Stockholm för att förbereda den kommande gymnasieskolreformen, och sen från 1972 som skolinspektör i Kenya. Mitt tvåårskontrakt där blev till slut sju år, och genom ett FN-jobb i Botswana blev jag kvar i Afrika ända till 2005 när jag kom tillbaka till Lund.

My name is Herman Erik Gumaelius and in the 1960's I was the principal of Polhemskolan in the city of Lund in the south of Sweden. Jokingly called "Lund's most absent", I was then on leave as from 1968 for work in the Ministry of Education in Stockholm to prepare for the introduction of "gymnasieskolan", a major school reform, and then, from 1972, as an Inspector of Schools in Nairobi, Kenya. There my original 2-year contract transformed into a seven year stay, followed by a UN job in Botswana. After my retirement in 1988 I stayed on in Africa and it was not until 2005 that I returned to Lund and Sweden.
